If you are driving a car with a helium balloon next to you, you'll notice the following:
When you step on the brake, the balloon will move backwards.
When you accelerate, the balloon will move forwards, faster than the car.
This is because it is really the air in the car that is moving in the opposite direction, along with the other passengers.
A helium balloon is basically a hole, and you could say it behaves like negative mass.
