In time for #ANZAC day Trove Treasures has a story on 'Trench Art'.

"Soldiers would make objects from discarded ammunition and any other material they could find, take raw photographs of their surroundings, and write poems for their loved ones back home."

Discovering trench art

Across centuries, wars and conflicts have pulled people from their everyday lives into literal and figurative battlefields. Whether they were soldiers, nurses or prisoners of war, they all left big pieces of their individual identity at home.  By creating art, people at war were able express themselves and begin to process what they were experiencing.

This is a photo of the first load of books to be moved from the Melbourne Parliament to the new capital, Canberra.

Big job. Not surprised it took Ken Binns a whole year!

I really enjoyed talking to Lincoln Turner and Linnett Turner about Alison Sanchez (nee Binns).

Alison grew up in Canberra when it was still mainly paddocks and her dad was one of the first national librarians. So it's all terribly appropriate for a podcast based on the National Library's digital repository.

We learned that Alison made a convincing Winkle and used to hang out with a future prime minister.

In Those Days

Gerard and Celeste (from the podcast Stamps Aren't Cool) came on In Those Days to talk about their un-mutual love of stamps.

We read newspaper articles on stamps and relationships from #Trove. We learned a lot about stamps, the people who love them, & the people who love the people who love them.

Great news about Trove this morning!

Describing Trove as an "essential government service" there will be an extra $33 million of funding and then $9.2 million annually (indexed to inflation) after that.

This means the NLA will be able to plan properly for Trove and focus on core business rather than constantly needing to advocate for the next round of funding.

'Off life support': National Library's Trove platform receives $33m budget lifeline

Ministers Katy Gallagher and Tony Burke have declared Trove's funding uncertainty has been ended "once and for all".

The recent discussions and petition to save #Trove through the full funding of the #NationalLibraryAustralia service has been added to with an #Australianparliament e-petition.
