A fantastic collaboration between two very different reed talents -- Japanese saxophonist Sadao Watanabe, and Boston legend Charlie Mariano -- each of whom seemed to always push each other to new heights in their music! That's definitely the case here, as Charlie lets his growing interest in Indian music inflect Sadao's sound with an even sharper edge than usual -- opening both players to a spiritual, global core that would only expand more in later years -- but which is completely revolutionary here, even all these many years later! Both Sadao and Charlie blow alto sax, and Mariano handles nagasvaram too -- and the group features Masabumi Kikuchi on piano and Fumio Watanabe on drums -- both musicians who get sharp and modern at all the right moments, and make the whole thing sound even more amazing than just a jazz-meets-world record. - Dusty Groove
