MYCELIUM UPDATE

Two Sundays ago the #mycelium Stage One Bootstrap concluded, mostly successfully. I've finally written up the post-mortem, a state-of-the-project report written for lay people. Thanks to the people, whoever you are, who took part.

It can be read at https://khleedril.org/mycelium/report-1.html.

The Mycelium network is intended to underlie project governance structures with an undiscoverable peer-2-peer affiliation system.

Mycelium Network: State Report after Stage One Bootstrap

UPDATE

The whole thing is undiscoverable, so it is difficult to assess progress in the project. Doing a little poking, I can see that 13 people have registered so far, and they consist of a group of 7, a group of 5, a singleton, and me (the one fully ratified). My guess is that the groups are the contributors to two projects, which is encouraging if true as that means that the Mycelium network is starting to be used IRL.

The Mycelium network has the ultimate aim to provide provenance to people to allow them to participate in online project governance structures; it is a network of PGP public keys, but unlike the original intention for the keys to be discoverable, this network is absolutely not discoverable.

Calling all #foss, #gnu, #guix developers! Please help if you can with the Stage-0 bootstrap of a Mycelium network. The purpose is to provide mutual provenance: in the first place it will prove we are actual humans. The salient features are * you are not discoverable, * there is absolutely no centre; it is entirely distributed * only your trusted friends can know your API end-point; you will not be spammed. 1/2 https://khleedril.org/mycelium-bootstrap-0. #mycelium #myceliumboot0

@info ``On the more public facing projects, it’s about ActivityPub ...''

I can't see it having relevance to ActivityPub. But would be great as a tool in open governance, which is the main intention. Watch out for the next stage in the bootstrap: #myceliumboot1.
