Discover Mount Gambier

Last night I was at Borderline Speedway, Mt Gambier, South Australia, for the 30th Kings Challenge.
No phone reception for most of the night. It's about time Telstra & Optus fixed this black spot.
Some good racing, especially during the features as the track widened out. A fair few crashes, most casualties didn't return as they prepared for the Classic tomorrow. Track was excellent.
Was saddened to see the grandstand that I sat in for a few years had been demolished. The new hill in turn 4 looks great. When 3/4 get connected, it will be as big as Mt Max.
Haudenschild & Randall put on a great show. Jye Corbett from the B-Main to third was sensational.
2nd set of heats was unnecessary. Show went too long & too late. Left at 11:30pm AEDT with the Wingless Sprint feature still to run. Arrived back at Warrnambool at 1:30am. Got to sleep at 3am, woke up at 11am.
Now for the Classic!

We're arrived at Borderline Speedway, Mt Gambier, South Australia. One of my favourite places. Feeling really fresh after resting yesterday. Been absolutely battered by the wind over the last 24 hours. We had a nice cruise across from Warrnambool after lunch. Looking forward to a great night's racing. Though it will be a late night because they're running two sets of heats with over 60 cars. Madness! Hopefully, it will be a nice drive home and a fresh start tomorrow. PS: Phone reception is bad here in case of lack of posts.

Today is forty years since the devastating #AshWednesday #bushfire in south-western Victoria, Australia that killed 75 people around #MtGambier, #Geelong and the Western Victorian coast.

I was in grade prep, nearly 4 years old, and it was the only time my Mum kept me home from school. I remember the red dust on our old weatherboard house - an ominous, ashy glitter.

Little were we to know that just 26 years later, in 2009, Black Saturday would make Ash Wednesday pale in comparison. Geelong hit 48 C on Black Saturday. It was too hot to breathe outside.

The towns that were affected by Ash Wednesday are now home to tens of thousands of people - Anglesea, Torquay, Jan Juc, Winch, Deans Marsh - and the #Otways are overdue for a burn.

Is your bushfire plan up to date?
