Well, tonight is the conclusion of the four-day #KnoxvilleNationals, aka the Super Bowl of #Sprintcar #racing

Based on the #IAWX forecast of TS and possible +TS in the area today and tonight, it will be a MIRACLE if this event is not cancelled.

The track prep crew at Knoxville is best in the country, but too much rain means too slick of a track, and 900+HP, 1,400 lb. race cars do not do well on slippery surfaces.

For the two people on here who care about #sprintcar #racing, Southern Oregon's Tanner Holmes in the 18T qualified 31st, but won heat race 1 by a margin of 1.8 seconds. This puts him in the A main tonight.

These two prelim nights of the #KnoxvilleNationals is all about logging points, and Holmes racked up a huge amount of them on his quest to get into the big show Saturday for a chance to race for $190,000 to win.

Pretty cool watching out local Southern #Oregon #sprintcar driver, Tanner Holmes back at the #KnoxvilleNationals, aka the Super Bowl of Sprint Car racing.

It is a four-day show, and Holmes qualifies the 18T tonight to try and get into the A main Saturday for the big prize.

He's picked up Brad Sweet's former Crew Chief, and the 18T has an incredible new Nationals paint scheme, red on the right, blue on the left.

Raudman Rundown has Holmes making the A main Saturday.

Since this is #KnoxvilleNationals week in the #sprintcar #racing world, I thought I'd share my Knoxville story.

In 1984, my first wife and I drove her Toyota Starlet to Knoxville, Iowa's big half-mile dirt (clay) oval so I could photograph the races for National Speed Sport News.

While walking across the track to shoot in turns 3 & 4, I slipped and dropped my LowePro bag full of 35mm film camera equipment.

I still have the bag, and it still has the stains from that luscious Knoxville clay.

I'll be posting about some very big money #Sprintcar #racing for the next four days.

Both nat'l touring series - High Limit and World of Outlaws - are now at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, OH for four nights of action. The winner's payouts getting progressively bigger leading to the Kings Royal on Sat, which is $200,000 to win.

Rooting for the closest thing I have to a "local" driver, Tanner Holmes (Jacksonville, OR) in the red 18T. He has big 'mo heading into Eldora.

and so, the very next race.... Sprint Car main event first lap, went up the wall in the same spot but managed to somehow save it and get back down, and went on to win the race 25 laps later!

The manual focus caught me with this one; not as crisp due to being back focused from the subject where ended up in trouble, but still an awesome moment to capture.

Sunshine & the Clauson/Marshall 7BC team are really switched on so far this year. They're going to have a big say in the championship race.

Last night was our tenth & final event of the trip. The final night of the 61st Australian Sprintcar Championships at Premier Speedway, Warrnambool.
I was feeling better than I did on Friday, but was still suffering fatigue.
The weather wasn't too kind to us with showers & a gale blowing.
The top 72 cars in points were on hand, plus the Late Models. The rain hit as heat two of the Late Models entered which was the first stoppage of the night. The track was reworked, & then there was a huge wreck in the D-Main, which unfortunately stopped proceeding as Dane Court was sent to hospital. With an ambulance back, the racing continued, and the B-Main delivered a cracker with Kerry Madsen coming from 13th to win, and Sammy Walsh pipping Matt Dumesny at the line for the last transfer.
The Victorian Late Model Championship final was a chaotic mess. When the race was declared, the right guy won in Callum Harper... then the rain hit again!
After close to an hour, the cars in the final worked the track back in. J-Mac had his engine break in his second hot lap session.
The final was a green to chequers, race for the ages. Brock Hallett shot to the lead early on before being caught by Goodyer and Veal, then Hallett pulled infield with something breaking. Veal and Goodyer swapped the lead until Veal pulled ahead, who was then caught by a charging Lachie McHugh, who fought back and fourth with Veal for the lead. McHugh eventually pulled away, bit while all the action was happening at the front Jordyn Charge who stuck it up top for the whole race had gone from 9th to 4th in a great drive. McHugh ended up winning the Championship in a fantastic caution free race.
Well done to the Premier Speedway Club for having the show done by 11:30pm despite everything running against them.
What a night! What a 16 days! Looking forward to next year.
