As voted by my Monthly Supporters, I drew an image of Cleo from H2O: Just Add Water. The theme for this poll was based on different IPs that helped shaped me like The Clone Wars and Madoka Magica and h2O was one of them that made me more recognize mermaids thanks to it's premiere on TeenNick here in the States, with Cleo being the one I related to the most. I wanted to make sure I did the character justice with my art style as I don't often do real life to anime art pieces. The magic was more just something for her to do and the mako mermaids always make me worried I get it right until it's shaded. The real challenge was the background as I wanted to both capture her underwater and the moon pool with the moon creeping over the abandoned volcano. It's probably my favorite part of the piece. So here's to you H20, being one of the IPs to help mold me into what I am today.

It’s Oktoberfest Already

I had no idea Denver celebrated Oktoberfest in September. I always thought the Oktober part of Oktober fest referred to October because I’m a dumb American. Anyways, when I think of Oktoberfest, I think of a mega house party – a shit ton of drinking games with one guy who’s way too into the grill.

And houseparty vibes is what alt rock bands Moonpool and NVM gave. The people in the back were drinking beers and eating pizza while the people in front were bopping with the bands who were also bopping because, as at all house parties, the band is friends with like half the people. They only exist to give people a good time and to get laid. And while I can’t talk to the latter half of that, the former definitely happened.

Then demonic metal rockers Faetooth and shoegaze Slow Crush came in and changed it from a house party to a concert. From a social experience to a night of music. The crunchy Faetooth came in and… I mean, I guess they slowed things down. But they also made things angry with their crunchy guitar tones and whimsical gutter growls from hell. So a little bit of this, a little bit of that I guess.

And I guess Slow Crush also slowed things down with their atmospheric rock. Although, in my notes, I wrote that it was like an acid trip. So maybe the house party never stopped. Maybe people got too intense – Faetooth – and then the drugs kicked in – Slow Crush. Which happens, not just in Colorado where shrooms are now legal too, but everywhere.

When I left, Oktoberfest was obviously still rocking. It was a Saturday night and there’s a college not too far away. It felt highly appropriate given what I had just experience at Slow Crush’s show. The good vibes kept going, the smell of good food still invaded, the people… still existed.

I’m not going to judge people I’ve never met, but I did enjoy the gauntlet of festivities as I walked to my car, which is something I wouldn’t normally say. I guess I was just put in a good mood.
