Uppers On The South Downs

Good and rare mod revival tracks that a collector, the curious or the nostalgic will love to own. I have to recommend, if you can find it, the 1981 re-release for the inclusion of Purple Hearts.

Teenage Anthems

Continuing to add archive posts to the substack. This is a great, must have classic mod revival album. The 2020 reissue is excellent too. #vinyl #AwayFromTheNumbers #review #ModRevival

Secret Affair - Behind Closed Doors

Behind Closed Doors was written in a bit of a rush, presumably to capitalise on the success of the first record. It meant that the two main songwriters, Ian Page and David Cairns, worked remotely and apart.

The Lambrettas - Beat Boys In The Jet Age

John Peel, on playing a Secret Affair session in 1979 (he quite liked Secret Affair) was a little sniffy over The Lambrettas' name - saying "at least they [Secret Affair] weren't called something ridiculous like The Vespas"

I fibbed. One more. The debut from Sharp Class and, in my opinion, their best so far. Listening to this I feel 17 again. Hard to explain how good this is, but anybody my age who was in to the scene back then will LOVE this #vinyl #ModRevival #xp
Now on to the brilliant Sharp Class before we eat. I wrote about this band on my blog recently, a modern day mod revival band that are absolutely smashing it out of the park. #vinyl #ModRevival #xp #SharpClass

The Jam played their last-ever gig as a band when they appeared in Brighton, England, December 11, 1982.

Frontman Paul Weller went on to form The Style Council and later had a successful solo career.

A Modern Mod Revival? Sharp Class of ’25

As I write this we are coming to the end of 2025, a quarter of the way through the 21st Century, and it seems mod revival, the mod scene, power pop, brit pop and the like are refusing to lie down.

Widely regarded as the first and most significant mod band to emerge from LA, the trio—led by Tony Rugolo’s jazz-influenced, sharp songwriting—built a reputation on explosive live shows. The release kicks off an archival series featuring newly remixed, remastered, and previously unheard material, honoring the band whose sound transcended the mod scene and built a devoted following beyond the underground.
