Boom! Suddenly it's spring, the city in colours, cherry blossoms in full bloom!

Brussels isn’t always what people think it is. It’s not just the rough edges, the noise, the grit. You have to open the bolster, wander a little slower, look twice. Somewhere between worn facades and quiet corners, it opens up—soft light, unexpected colors, a kind of beauty that doesn’t try too hard.

The Marolles doesn’t shout for attention. It waits. And if you let it, it shows you something real.

🌼 Día de Muertos in the Marolles: a colourful tribute to life and remembrance 🌼

Last night, an impressive procession wound its way through the streets of Brussels' Marolles district. This was no ordinary parade, but a heart-warming tribute to our deceased loved ones, inspired by the Mexican tradition of Día de Muertos. For the eighth time, this festival brought people together – young and old, from all walks of life – to collectively remember, celebrate and create.

What began as an initiative by local residents grew into a multidisciplinary event: from workshops and concerts to a collective altar where hundreds of people left photos, candles and personal mementos. In this way, the dead are honoured in a manner befitting Brussels: colourful, open and multicultural.

Día de Muertos shows how traditions transcend boundaries. It connects cultures, generations and stories – and reminds us that remembering itself is a form of living.

Altijd leuk om tijdens m’n verplaatsingen in Brussel nieuwe muurschilderingen te ontdekken.
