After 30-35 hours, here are my 'Yoshi and the Mysterious Book' numbers. (Discoveries first, Smileys later.) I didn't use a single guide, and I only asked for in-game hints by spending tokens 3 times or so. How did I do? 🤓

Rolled the credits on Yoshi and the Mysterious Book about 45 minutes ago. (Then I immediately re-played the final level to grab the Smileys I missed. That took a bit of time.)

My Nintendo Switch 2 play-time tracker says I've sunk about 20-25 hours into the game.

Notes on Yoshi and the Mysterious Book as I'm nearing the end:

1. Took a day or two to click

2. Same philosophy as Super Mario 64

3. NOT a traditional platformer

4. 2D sandbox with many elements, platforming just being one of them

5. Focus is on puzzles, exploration and just trying different things

6. Game can be finicky - near-perfect precision and timing sometimes required

7. Some discoveries fail to register the first time

8. Some Smiley puzzles are REALLY obtuse

9. The OST is meh

The negatives in the list above are all nitpicks. (Except maybe the thing about the OST.) They are far outweighed by the positives.

You can still feel a hint of that quintessential Nintendo magic with this game. Nintendo really knows how to put "play" above all else. And somehow this company just doesn't seem to run out of ideas…
