As of anime, the other 2 I considered as Anime of the Year were #ToBeHeroX and #MaebashiWitches.
The first being mind-blowingly creative with its visual presentation but also a story that came together by increasingly intertwining stories of individual characters. I enjoyed it a lot! The main reason I didn’t place it is that it feels incomplete because the story is not yet over.

The other being a well rounded story about girls who each have their own issues and overcome them in meaningful ways while learning to understand each other.
The main reason I didn’t place it is because I initially dropped it after one episode and had to be told about its merits before picking it up again.

I picked up #maebashiwitches again. I’d stayed lowkey interested and even listened to the songs, and there was an article by @animefeminist how well it handles overweight and the prejudice that’s associated with it. Turns out the first episode was a bit more superficial and the following ones are really digging into and developing the characters while they try to fulfill people’s wishes.
