Rally at City Hall Plaza, Tuesday October 1st, 11-2.
Join #SeniorsForClimate & #CalgaryClimateHub's #EcoElders on #NationalSeniorsDay, to call for urgent #ClimateAction as part of a Canada-wide day of action.
#ExtremeHeat, fires, and flooding are “unnatural” disasters caused by burning fossil fuels. We need to ACT NOW.

I’m free now but was arrested with several others and briefly detained by SFPD today at Wells Fargo headquarters. We held a vigil inside to solemnly recognize all the people and lands and beings that WF is hurting and killing through their funding of fossil fuel and other projects.

Deal "agreed" at COP28 without discussion with member countries.
Documents providing details not published or signed off.
I can't actually *find* the text yet (pointers welcome!), but apparently it calls on countries to contribute to global efforts to transition away from fossil fuels in energy systems “in a just, orderly and equitable manner, accelerating action in this critical decade, so as to achieve net zero by 2050 in keeping with the science”.
Which they could do by pointing to any small investments in renewables, efficiency, CCS, research or whatever.
Everyone seems amazed and delighted that it contains the words "fossil fuels", but as far as I can tell, it's a nothingburger.
Another year closer to exhausting the carbon budget. Permission given for the fossil fuel fossils to keep producing.
The science is clear: to stabilize climate, we have to phase out fossil fuels.
Yet in the latest draft of the #COP28 Global Stocktake, that phrase has been removed. Instead, it calls for "abatement" of coal and "reducing both consumption and production of fossil fuels" -- and that's not enough.
For that reason, I've joined over 2000 CEOs, investors, NGOs, health professionals, scientists, youth, and faith leaders to sign this letter, which calls for:
1. An orderly phase out of all fossil fuels in a just & equitable way
2. A price on carbon and tripling investments for renewable energy
3. A halt and reversal of deforestation, land degradation & other ecosystem loss by 2030; safeguarding the territories of indigenous peoples; ensuring resilient food systems; and a strong global goal on adaptation

It’s time for world leaders to prove which side of history they are on--because #LaterIsTooLate.
