🐧🔈 At Right Whale Bay in #SouthGeorgia thousands of king #penguins create a noise so loud it's described as "ear-splitting." But within all that chaos is a sophisticated system of communication.

Researchers found that these #birds use unique acoustic signatures to find their mates and chicks, ignoring the calls of thousands of others to focus only on their own family.

‘Quite a surprise’: king penguin swims thousands of kilometres to find itself on South Australian beach

The bird, usually found on subantarctic islands, believed to be undergoing annual moulting on land at Coorong beach

I took this photo of king penguins in Porvenir, Tierra del Fuego, Chile, my beautiful country. The King Penguins of Tierra del Fuego are the only colony that inhabits South America. In 2010, this charismatic seabird arrived in Tierra del Fuego to feed, breed and live. The reproductive cycle of the king penguin is the longest of the 18 penguin species, lasting between 14 and 15 months from courtship to the end of breeding, they do not build nests and lay only one egg that the father or mother incubates between their feet. If successful, they lay two eggs in a period of three years. At around five years of age, the species reaches sexual maturity.
