"(...) This is essentially a way of using a secure instant messaging protocol called XMPP, better known as Jabber, to communicate over voice and text from an anonymous phone number. JMP is the first phase of the Sopranica network. The next phase—called WOM—will create the physical infrastructure for the cell network with a community radio network."

@mattcropp how about presenting this to the #keepbtlocal folks? :)

This Interview Was Conducted on an Anonymous, DIY Cell Phone Network

Sopranica is a surveillance-free cellular network built by volunteers from around the world. It’s easy to use and free to set up.

Just got off the phone with a #keepbtlocal #coop board member, and it sounds like there's serious interest in parlaying the momentum from the Telecom conversion campaign into a wireless mesh co-op #isp in town, as we have a list of several hundred supporters who could be tapped.

So, please send me relevant #meshnetworking resources to learn more!

Some good thoughts on the #KeepBTLocal campaign from the #creditunion-backed equity crowdfunding platform that hosted our #coop's preferred stock offering: https://www.milkmoneyvt.com/blog/154-keep-our-businesses-local

Keep Our Businesses Local

Milk Money Vermont

In the wee hours of Tuesday morning, the #BurlingtonTelecom #privatization reached its climax, with the #KeepBTLocal #coop's bid being rejected in the final round 8-2 in favor of a sketchy-ass last minute back-room deal.

Disappointing, but also a bit of a relief that the campaign is over, 2 months after it was supposed to have been. One big takeaway for me is that the community capital capacity of the #btv community needs to be better organized for future opportunities...

Headed down to a #KeepBTLocal press conference to kick off the final days of action before the #btv city council decides whether to sell our municipal fiber telecom to publicly traded #Ting/ #Tucows, or to our subscriber-owned #coop. The results of 5 years of organizing will be judged Monday... *Bites Nails Nervously*

The #keepbtlocal campaign has made it to the final round of bidding for our effort to divert the #privatization of our local telecom into #mutualization.

The major public critique from our opponents is that our cost of capital is too high (though our opponent is a heavily leveraged publicly traded company), so would welcome suggestions as to sources of friendly $$ to bite off pieces of the high interest loan that is currently most of our #coop's financing! #btv

#TFW an opponent uses "well organized" pejoratively against a campaign you're working on... 😂

The community equity campaign for the #keepbtlocal campaign to divert the privatization of our local telecom into mutualization just crossed the $500k minimum threshold to unlock the funds! 🎉🎉

“Pssst. #BTV. Guess what? OUR COMMUNITY EQUITY CAMPAIGN JUST BROKE THE $500K MINIMUM! Next stop: a cool million, if y'all chip in! 💰 #btvcc”

Holy shit, the diverting-privatization-to-mutualization fight we're having in #btv is hitting a critical boiling point. People are *moving* and events are *happening* fast; barreling towards the crescendo when we either win or lose...
