Governance at my Credit Union

My credit union underwent some major corporate changes. I did not pay much attention:

@Edent @thedarkener I have an idea that there is a #creditunion out there that could scoop up a whole bunch of tech literate high value clients with businesses by offering some banking services based on #openbanking that work with a range of opensource software.
Extraordinary show: Hanscom CEO Peter Rice talks about his new book "Break or Become," walking three Caminos de Santiago, the death of a spouse, fathering two young boys...and he even offers insights into what makes #creditunion special still. There are over 400 shows in the library. This is one of a kind https://www.buzzsprout.com/268738/episodes/19262785

Governance at my Credit Union

I don't pay much attention. Yet it seems to function well:

I opened an account at a credit union (VanCity) in 2018 as an act of protest against Canadian Big Banks that profit immensely from their investment in fossil fuel infraustrcture.

I guess a few other people did too… they're offering me a whole $75 to encourage others to sign up.

I'll pay them 5 cents to stop harassing me.

I was feeling iffy on my #creditunion after they did the bait and switch with a "high-interest" savings account (rapidly dropped the interest rate after a few months). Also found the non-stop life insurance promo letters annoying.

But them charging me a $50 fee for not closing a CD account within a tiny window, and refusing to waive the fee despite me being just a few days late, was the last straw.

Strangely, they don't seem to mind me leaving (to another credit union, of course).

Until just a few years ago I had always banked with a #Canadian #BigFive #Bank. We switched to #InnovationFederal #CreditUnion, and it has been so much better. We are saving money on fees and making a little money by paying bills online and with membership rewards. Plus like all the smaller cities big sports infrastructure is supported by #IFCU out west. If you are renewing a mortgage, take a look at Innovation #CU.

I don't know anyone out there who works at Rivermark Credit Union here in #Portland, do I? #CreditUnion
