A look at the Kauai Museum.

We have looked at a lot of exhibits at the museum.

These are some of my favorite items I saw. I love that every item tells a story. So there is a lot to see and many hours you could spend at the Kauai Museum learning all of the stories.

Kauai is really a melting pot of many peoples and cultures.

And, you will see how those peoples and cultures helped shape the Garden Island into what it is today.

Much of the museum is devoted to sharing those different cultures. You will learn about Hawaiian and Polynesian cultures. And you will see how so many other world cultures have left a mark on the island.

These flags represent some of the many peoples, countries, and cultures that have made Kauai a melting pot.

Learn how Kauai responded to WWII at the Kauai Museum.

While the neighboring island of Oahu is most remembered in regard to the World War, Kauai also played a role in the conflict.

The museum's exhibits from those years reflect both positive and negative imagery and propaganda from the era. It was interesting to peruse the exhibits and consider how those words and images played on what had become a multicultural island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

Surfing has a long and storied history in Hawaii. The sport was once the sport of kings, enjoyed by many of Hawaii's royal families.

However, Christian missionaries arrived in Hawaii and found the sport too leisurely, causing the sport to nearly die out.

Surfing made a resurgence in the 20th Century and that lasts through today.

At the Kauai Museum, you'll discover surfing exhibits, like this one of Kauai native-daughter Bethany Hamilton. She still lives on island.

I recently published a new blog article, "Kauai Museum: A Must-Visit Location."

I'll be sharing some of the pictures and stories we found intriguing at the museum. Get ready for a journey of history, cowboys, murder, and surfing.

Have you visited the Kauai Museum? What was your favorite thing to see?
