Latest trends and novelties in JIT operations: first-hand experiences of JIT practitioners and Eurojust

The Fourth Joint Investigation Teams (JITs) Evaluation Report brings the main practical findings in terms of lessons learned and best practices identified in JIT operations to JIT practitioners. Published today by the Secretariat of the Network of National Experts on Joint Investigation Teams (JITs Network), the report also focuses on Eurojust’s experience with multilateral JITs, recent developments in JITs and JIT-related case law.

Highlights of the 18th Annual meeting of the National Experts on JITs

The 18th Annual Meeting of the Network of National Experts on Joint Investigation Teams (JITs) was organised by the JITs Network Secretariat in close cooperation with Eurojust and Europol on 5 and 6 October 2022 in The Hague. The meeting brought together JIT National Experts from 21 EU Member States and representatives of EU institutions and agencies, as well as other practitioners and stakeholders.

Focus on core international crimes during annual meeting of experts on joint investigation teams

The use of joint investigation teams (JITs) into core international crimes is the main topic of discussion at the 18th annual meeting of EU National Experts in this field. The meeting, hosted today and tomorrow by the JITs Network Secretariat at Eurojust, will focus, in particular, on the joint investigation team between Ukraine and five EU Member States, set up with the support of the Agency.

JITs Network

In accordance with Council Document 11037/05, the Network of National Experts on Joint Investigation Teams (the JITs Network) was established in 2005 to facilitate the work of practitioners, as well as to encourage the use of JITs and contribute to the sharing of experience and best practice in using this tool. Since 2005, the JITs Network Secretariat has organised annual meetings of the JITs Network with support from Eurojust and Europol. The meetings provide a forum for JIT practitioners from the Member States and relevant EU institutions to share experience and challenges and propose solutions from a practitioner’s point of view. Eurojust promotes and supports the activities of the JITs Network by providing practical and logistical support, including hosting the annual meetings of the JITs Network at its premises in The Hague, as well as hosting the Secretariat. The JIT evaluation form (update 16/2/2021) facilitates the gathering and sharing of information on JITs operations. The form is one of the deliverables of the JIT Evaluation Project.
