In a 2016 interview Dallesandro said:

“ I thought it was a story that was before its time. I thought it would open people’s minds and show them what was happening in the world. But people don’t see it that way. Now it’s more important than ever before. It’s only been a few years that attitudes towards sexuality have changed. “

Je T’aime Moi Non Plus (I Love You, I Don't) is a 1976 film written and directed by Serge Gainsbourg, starring Jane Birkin, Hugues Quester and Joe Dallesandro, with a cameo by Gérard Depardieu. The film took it’s name from the 1969 song by Birkin and Gainsbourg and was the songwriter’s directorial debut. The sexual content of the film made it every bit as controversial as the song itself had been.
