Climate change solutions becoming a ‘new way of colonizing’ Indigenous peoples, Inuit rep says

Dr. Amy Hudson has returned from the United Nations Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues (UNPFII) with renewed vigour to fight for NunatuKavut Inuit’s way of life in the face of climate change. Hudson, who was part of a four-member delegation from the NunatuKavut Community Council (NCC) to attend the forum in New York last week, says hearing stories from other Indigenous delegations who continue to struggle against Eurocentric governments was “personally humbling.”

A resolution to establish a chiefs’ committee on nation-building was not put forward at the Assembly of First Nations special chiefs assembly last week.

National Chief RoseAnne Archibald said the chiefs' resistance to change was slowing the process of the Healing Path Forward Accord that would set a new approach to dealing with the federal government on treaty and inherent rights implementation.

Chiefs’ resistance to change stalls new path for AFN

National Chief RoseAnne Archibald has given chiefs another few months to get on board with the next steps for her proposed Healing Path Forward Accord. The accord was adopted at last July’s Assembly of First Nations (AFN) annual general assembly in a resolution entitled “A renewed framework providing strategic direction and action toward evolutionary and positive change.” This spring’s assembly, held April 4 to April 6, was to give the go-ahead to establish a chiefs’ committee on nation-building.

Well done Chiefs. The Alberta Sovereignty Act, aside from being unconstitutional, goes against the inherent rights of the treaty nations in Alberta. #ableg #abpoli #Treaty #InherentRights
