I wish altbot had a sibling, unitbot maybe?
So when a barbarian informs that: "I caught a fish 3.5 lengths-of-a-bodypart long!11", then civilized people could ask the bot to please translate. 🙂
Many posts here start good, but then gets weird with units (and I'm sure it works both ways). The post is not quite interesting enough to start actively wondering how to perform the conversion by myself, and so the mild interest turns into mild frustration.
You know, the orange asshole’s isolationist and alienating policies might be just the push we need to finally abandon the #ImperialSystem of measurements in favor of the #MetricSystem worldwide.
It’s a shit situation but there’s a speck of a silver lining in that shit.

Good morning. 🌿🌿🌿
21 December 2024
I got up early this morning, thanks once again to Ben; so, I made coffee and let the dogs out - in case you were wondering who. Now I'm up struggling while Ben and Charlie are fast asleep.
It is bundle up weather where I live in Louisiana (34° F or 1° C) which translates to shirt sleeve weather in Minnesota. Do you know what is weird? It is not surprising that the United States adopted the Imperial System of measurement along with the British Empire (British Weights and Measures Act of 1824), what is surprising is that after the rest of the world moved on to the metric system, the United States did not - change is difficult in the United States of America.
'Thus, the metric system did not really catch on in the States, unless you count the increasing popularity of the nine-millimeter bullet.' - Dave Barry

A question to people who grew up with the #ImperialSystem, and don't use the #MetricSystem very often:
When hear a person is 1.90m tall, I mentally process that in one go.
How do you folks mentally handle the equivalent "6 feet 3 inches" in your brains?
Does it "automagically" get mapped into a single height figure, without you even noticing it's values on two different scales, added up? Or do you mentally stack the inches on top of the feet?
Assuming you were 5 feet 2 inches tall, and could not see the 6 feet 3 inches person: how does your brain "compute" and "visualize" the difference?
