I love caulking but hate it at the same time, period.

It's equally messy and stinky, as it is extremely satisfying and protective (in terms of water resistance and other kinds of nuisances)

Despite this, it is still one house maintenance thing I love to do when it goes right, but it seems like it's a material that's designed to effectively become blocked up, jammed up, and be infuriating to apply.

I think my main gripe is with 100% silicone clear caulking. Somehow it's the worst of the bunch in terms of application...

The yearly "Riiiight THAT was the colour of the terrace". 🧹🪣

The first time I cleaned the terrace after moving in it took all day to scrub and scrub again. I used a specialized cleaner. The water was black and the smell of algae was strong. And there were unwanted guests living in one of the beams 🐛

Now it only took two hours to clean. I used regular "green soap" and I even had the energy to give everything a manual scrub to really lift a lot of the grime.

This has been a lesson in patience for me. Restoring old things takes time and regular maintenance is key.
