I think #holossocial is exactly how social media should function but for one thing.

I think the Profile Cache concept should optionally extend to include your last ~20 posts on the relay server.

You can basically model that with any Mastodon server if you turn on auto delete and write a script to archive your posts on a home server or whatever. It feels like the ideal balance of personal control and public visibility.

in theory, if I understood everything correctly, holos.social is the perfect method for people or organizations who can't trust anyone.

On Mastodon the server owner can still read your messages in a DB and so on. Or the prosecutors can gain access over the hoster.

On Holos your account is all on your phone.

And afai understood, all what is there is your email and the password. So your account can be blocked. But that's it.
Then it's just the part of the backup. But this is also defined on your phone, and not on the relay server.

Hey @HolosSocial - I am experimenting with #HolosSocial as @[email protected], and I have a couple issues: 1) I followed my @aaribaud account from my Holos account, but this follow does not appear on the piaille.fr side; and 2) I can't follow my @aaribaud account at all.

Any suggestions on how I should troubleshoot these issues?

Something to clarify about custom domains. This feature lets you own your identity with your domain name. No one else can create an account with it, the relay verifies domain ownership through DNS before activation.
If you want friends or family to have an identity on your domain, you can. As the domain owner, you control who gets one. For root domain identities, this is done through WebFinger configuration, without hosting a relay and even if people are on different relays.

Ten days ago, I asked for help with the server hosting #Fedilab, #HolosSocial, #HolosDiscover and more.

After comparing several options, I went with a dedicated server from #Hetzner. It's slightly above what I had in mind but much better suited for the load and future growth.

#Holos 1.1.2 has been published.
This release fixes backup to disk that was incorrectly opening a share dialog, a timeout issue with push registration, and reply mentions showing as @Unknown in the local timeline. Also fixed signup that could misleadingly suggest registration on a custom domain.

#Holos 1.1.1 has been published. You can now use your root domain as your identity with a simple TXT DNS record. If you have only one user, a static JSON file is enough.
