A Blast in the Past is a themed event to be hosted on Steam, honoring titles that immerse players in authentic eras of the past—whether that's marching with Roman legions, surviving medieval sieges, navigating the politics of feudal Japan, or simulating life in the early 20th century. If your game offers a window into the world as it once was, we’d love to consider it for inclusion! Will we have Steam front page featuring? With your help, we’d like to make that happen! We are targeting an early September event and will be asking for a Deal slot; so if your game is already released or is planned for release by September 2025, we will prioritize titles that can guarantee they will be on discount. That said, pre-release titles are welcome to apply, and we would love to feature your demo within the event! 📅❗Deadline for submissions: May 15th, 2025❗📅 We’ll endeavor to confirm participating titles in early June, and are shooting for ~120 titles to include. What qualifies as "A Blast in the Past” title? ✅ Eligible games meet this criteria: Are set in a historical period (or periods) before 1990 (e.g. Ancient Egypt, WWII, the Renaissance, the Paleolithic period) Strive for a degree of historical accuracy or grounding in real-world events, places, or cultures. For instance, characters do not need to be Historical Figures Of Note, but they should appear in period-relevant garb, have knowledge limited to the era, etc. Reflect the technology, societies, conflicts, or daily lives of people from the past Can span any genre: strategy, sim, narrative, RPG, FPS, city-builder, etc. Likely has the game tag(s) ‘Historical,’ ‘Rome,’ ‘Cold War’... ❌ Your game is probably not eligible if it is: Set in fantasy or alternate history worlds (e.g. steampunk Victorian London, medieval-inspired fiction, time travel narratives) Only loosely inspired by history, but contains futuristic or magical elements (e.g. knights with laser swords, aliens in ancient Rome, mounted dragons) A title that uses historical aesthetic only, without substantial narrative or mechanical grounding in a real era Utilizes the tags ‘Fantasy,’ ‘Science Fiction,’ ‘Mythology,’ ‘Magic’... Want to put forward more than one game? Heck yes, you do! Please submit a form for each title! I learned many years later that the video game was an adaptation of the board game released in 1973 in the UK 🇬🇧
The game was designed in part by a former prisoner of war who escaped from Colditz, the Major Patrick R. Reid 🎖️
