Kiln went off at 1, almost exactly as expected.
The last 15 minutes are the most exciting (terrifying!) as we watch guide cones through the bung-hole to see how far they have bent. Not enough and it will be a dull firing... too far, it's overfired. We also turn off a couple of the burners to slow down the end of the firing and to allow a little touch of oxidation to enhance the colours.
My colleague is in the picture, double checking my decision on these cones.

We are delighted to have had a baby at work! Well, strictly speaking, one of our pottery team had a baby, and in the safety of a hospital.
Coincidentally though, we also just developed a recipe for a new colour (which happens very, very rarely these days).
This means that we have an excuse to reinstate an old tradition, and have named the colour after the baby.
Welcome to Flo, and Flo Black! 🥳

A bit of clever packing, and the van gobbles up the last of our trade show display.

And just like that, it's all over.
I'm not sure what went wrong this year, but although we were delighted to pack up the stand extremely quickly, we were stymied by the bottleneck in the vehicle loading area. While Tracey went to try and inch the van closer and closer, Sean and I spent quality time sitting on the now bare floor, chatting.
I'm always amazed at how quickly the space becomes a utilitarian cavern after a Trade Fair.

This is how the messy studio "dummy run" set up from last week has turned out at its final destination. Everything found a place, and so far, we haven't discovered that we've forgotten anything, so all is well.

Why do I always try to remember to take my own mug with me when I'm staying in a hotel?
Oh yes.... this is why.

It's ridiculous, I know.
I am off to #ScotlandsTradeFair in Glasgow, to represent the company I've worked with for over 40 years, and the thing that worries me most is, what to wear? My day job requires absolutely zero smart clothes, so these 3 days per year throw me into a spiral of insecurity.
I have clothes thrown all over the bed now, trying to match up items that will give the impression that I know what I'm doing in the world of commerce.
Yes, it's ridiculous, I know.

First day back at work, and it's time to do the dummy run of our trade show stand in the wee upstairs studio. It's always a good idea to do this as it makes sure we have everything we need and it all fits! (Yes - that is speaking from experience). It doesn't look like much now, but it'll polish up nicely when it's all down in Glasgow later on this month.

The problem with hand-made things, like #HighlandStoneware pottery for example, is that sometimes what you get is not really what you see on the website..

Update: I got a nice replacement for my sad Robin! It is pretty good :) see next post :)
