So apparently the 2026 Doctor Who Christmas episode isn't happening, without any other future date announced at the moment for the show's return. Not exactly great news, but I hope that whenever DW returns, the focus is once again put on the story and the characters, and not surface-level fan service and twists that lead to nowhere.

Russell T Davies is also departing the show with his post including the quote: "For the record: there was no script, I never wrote it, and no actor was ever approached to play the next Doctor." Further reinforcing the suspicions that there was no plan for *that* twist ending beyond being a dramatic stunt to generate buzz.

There were a lot of great moments during Ncuti Gatwa's run, but a lot of sloppy decisions were made as well, making it feel that the series had gained a higher budget, but in exchange it lost touch with its heart. I love this cheesy, ridiculous show, and I want to see it return back to its campy, hopepunk roots.
