Hey Minnesota!
The April high power rocket launch has been moved to Sunday, April 19, due to high winds on Saturday.
Join us in North Branch to have fun with some large and some fast rockets. Or join us to launch your smaller Estes rockets.

It was a rocket day in Minnesota... I have been mentoring the 12 year old son of a friend for almost 8 years, today he flew his rocket on an H motor to 2400 ft, at over 450 mph. This earned him the cerification level 1 and he is now allowed to fly high power rockets.

Last summer this 5" diameter Doorknob rocket suffered an unfortunate lawn dart incident from a long ways up on an I245G flight. Took me a while, but it's back in flying shape once again. #rocketry #highpowerrocketry
Who's flying at LDRS? I'll be there, since it's our local field. #LDRS #rocketry #highpowerrocketry #modelrockets

Not every flight goes to plan, and today that's how it went. 7.5 out of 9 were successful. The half a point was for a cluster rocket that didn't fully light off the rail (3 out of 4), but was still recovered.

Three pics. The smashed one is the newest version of a BT60 Goblin. Again the chute release pin didn't let go despite several successful tests with the small chute bundle. It made it to 2878' on an Aerotech F67C motor.

The black sleek one is an upscale Estes Ninja, 2.5" diameter. Flew on an Aerotech F40W. Perfect flight to 1500'.

The skyracha rocket, a 4" upscale Big Daddy, flew great on a H130W to 1354'

My kid, the rocket transporter :) He helped fetch the 5" Big Daddy while I was prepping another. #rocketry #highpowerrocketry

I bench tested Black Widow's new electronics last week, and only three of the four channels fired. I went through the connections and they seemed OK, so I set up another test, moving the unburned match to another channel. This time, the altimeter showed that channel with no continuity, confirming that it was a bad match.

With a good match on that channel, all four channels fired just fine. Onward!

OK, I found some 1S 380mAH batteries rated 25C with current protection, so they should be able to deliver 9.5A if I'm capable of arithmetic on a Sunday. And they have Molex connectors, not JST-PH. Back in business in a couple of days. #rocketry #HighPowerRocketry

Awww... #EngineeringFail on my part. My overkill battery will in fact kill my altimeter.

"The largest lithium polymer battery that should be used with the Raven is 1S, 300 mAhrs, because larger lipo batteries can produce currents well in excess of the 22 Amp rating of the deployment channels in the event of an output short circuit, which can permanently damage the altimeter."

Better to find out now, but that's back to the drawing board on my sled. #rocketry #HighPowerRocketry #RocketSurgery
