Oates op zijn beurt noemt Hall “opruiend, bizar en onnauwkeurig”, en geeft en passant een antwoord op de vraag waar ik al heel lang mee loop: is het nu Hall & Oates of Daryl Hall & John Oates?

Het was groot nieuws afgelopen week, zo groot dat het zelfs door de NOS vermeld werd. En dat een dag na de verkiezingen. Echt groot nieuws dus. Muziekduo Hall & Oates verwikkeld in juridisch geschil. John Oates mag geen Hall & Oates liedjes solo spelen en Daryl Hall heeft zelfs al een contactverbod gevraagd (en toegewezen gekregen). Make love, not war, zou je ze willen toeroepen. Of in dit geval: Make music, not war. Voor mij kwam het nieuws aan alsof mijn ouders gaan scheiden.
En allerlei toepasselijke liedjes van het duo komen bij mij naar boven: Out Of Touch, Better Watch Your Back, Some Things Are Better Left Unsaid, I Can’t Go For That. Allemaal al eens geplaatst hier. Dus moet deze het maar doen. Ook al weet ik dat het geen lovers van elkaar zijn, ze breken wel elkaars hart. En ook een beetje het mijne.
