It took a while but I finally got #SpectraMesh firmware to work for the Heltec T114, to bring us to three boards that have working firmware - one of which has GPS!

I'm contemplating loading SpectraMesh onto the #hackersTownPager with a config setting to select between it and MeshCore for the mesh protocol.

I also want to make firmware for the Lilygo T-Deck.

Anyone with a spare Heltec V3, T114, or Xiao ESP32S3 WIO (ideally more than one...) want to help test this?

It's absolutely magical to be able to pick up my #hackersTownPager while sitting in San Francisco, type out a message and send it... across the continent to the east coast... and have a response come back within a handful of seconds.

Absolute fucking magic right there.

It's so damn cool to have this working!

v0.6.0 is coming along nicely, and will be widely available tomorrow!

New app added to the #HackersTownPager and #VoidMantisOS - PassGen, generates cryptographically random passwords. This addition is courtesy of @cooperq!

Merged into VMOS this morning!

We’re just waiting on cases to be finished - there was a setback in the printing process for them so they’re being reprinted right now - should be shipped to me soon!!

Short 1 minute demo video of Spectra in action, bridging messages between MeshCore on the #HackersTownPager and Meshtastic on my LilyGo T-Deck - using Veilid is the transport layer.

In MOST cases it achieves near real time delivery, occasionally DHT operations may be a little slow so you’ll have a few seconds delay. Even with that it’s easily fast enough for a real time conversation.

You can set it up to run on private channels - and it’s recommended to do that.

Making progress….

My veilid node running on the esp32 now has meshcore capabilities. I’m working on extending that into an actual bridge between meshcore and veilid.

Using such a thing, it’d be possible for folks with pagers to be able to message each other via meshcore and protected veilid routes, with data encrypted in transit.

The test cases for the hackers.town pager arrived last night. I did a quick partial test assembly to make sure they didn’t break like our first test cases did. They don’t - they appear to be workable. They’re also completely transparent resin - so all of the LEDs are visible, as are the PCBs in all their nerdy glory.

I’ll do a full assembly tomorrow and post photos - but I’m pretty happy with this result!
