New paper out: „Plasma-induced optically active defects in hexagonal boron nitride“. We show that purely physical argon #plasma treatment is the most promising route for creating optically active #defect #emitters in #hBN by plasma exposure.

How can it be that journals allow figures to be published that don’t even include any scalebar on SEM images? Neither is anything mentioned in the paper about their sizes. Makes comparisons really hard #hBN

Neat #QuantumSensing work out of 🇦🇺 where flakes of #2Dmaterials with defects in them are used to sense different things at the nanoscale about the material they're on top of when illuminated by a laser. In this case, they measure the magnetic field and temperature of an interesting ferromagnet

Seeing clearly into a new realm—researchers prototype a new generation of quantum microscopy

While quantum computing seems like the big-ticket item among the developing technologies based on the behavior of matter and energy on the atomic and subatomic level, another direction promises to open a new door for scientific research itself—quantum microscopy.
