Technically it's still Friday night, so here's another track I was thinking of. Grunge is not a genre most folk would associate with Moby, but this cover of Missions of Burma's "That's When I Reach For My Revolver" is probably my favourite thing he's recorded. Starts off pretty gently, then about a minute in he really starts going for it. Would pay good money to see that live (v envious of the top commenter on the video!)

Anyone who knows me knows I'm going to bring bluegrass/Americana/hiphop collective Gangstagrass to this party.

"Gunslinging Rambler" is a particular favorite of mine because it's one that really demonstrates a deep understanding of the shared "outlaw music" DNA in these blended styles.

Being a resident of Denton I'd be gravely remiss if I didn't mention our own intrepid genre benders Brave Combo. Probably best known to most who are familiar with them as a "punk polka" outfit, they're actually adept at many styles. My choice for today's Jukebox is their latin dance take on the country classic "Sixteen Tons"

I think this was possibly the first of their records I bought

There are three sets of #GenreBenders that have kind of defined what music I've listened to ever since really.

They each crossed punk rock with some other music I'd always known and led me back to it

First is the punk-rock-reggae-ska of 2 Tone in general

No doubt shared this before but Snakefinger was the first guy to cover The Model by Kraftwerk way before it finally became a hit in the UK. His version adds slide guitar. Great cover and genre mash.

Then there's the unexpected-covers flavour of the theme. Always thought this one was pretty fun.

Late as usual, but have been giving tonight's jukebox theme some thought. Also noticed two different versions of the hashtag were on the go so I've included both (though the not-plural one seems more popular).

These guys were quite the genre benders when I first heard them in the early 90s - they're a rock band, but rock rock or funk rock? Jazz rock or pop rock?!
