To wrap up, we have an 8-bit version of All the Small Things recorded by a group called 8-Bit Misfits. Yes, they cover a number of other well-known songs. I can't listen to it, but if you like this kind of thing... now you know where to find it.

And someone called Alex Melton recorded two versions. One in a rock/metal style. And the other is an a capella Christmas carol version. I am not a fan, but I grudgingly respect the dedication. /fin #GenreBending

A tighter session of critical listening, starting with All the Small Things by blink-182. A punk anthem from 1999. I found fewer covers, but we'll jump between genres quicker, and that makes it fun for me. 1/? #Music #GenreBending
GWAR singing Chappell Roan's Pink Pony Club is worth a watch, even if you're not familiar with either one. Unless you take life seriously.

Stevie Nicks and Fleetwood Mac have been performing for such a long time (the song is over 50 years old, already?), that I want to give them the last word. The original version of Landslide was recorded in 1975.

In 1997, Fleetwood Mac recorded Landslide (String Mix). I'm not smart enough to identify the instruments, but it reminds me of Enya. Feel free to reply and tell me why I'm wrong and how they achieved this sound.

In 2006, Stevie Nicks recorded Landslide with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. That seemed to be a trend at the time, and I'm not sure why we don't still see more of that.

Fleetwood Mac was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1998. Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks joined Fleetwood Mac (and were romantic partners) in 1975. In 2010 they recorded Landslide together again for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Stacey Kent sings quite a faithful version of Landslide backed by jazz piano.

Lyambiko is a German jazz vocalist. Her version is backed by trumpet, piano and drums.

Lauren Henderson sings a jazzy version. Who is she? I love this Qobuz description: "Vocalist Lauren Henderson is a sophisticated performer with a sound steeped in jazz, flamenco, R&B, and Latin traditions. The founder of her own Brontosaurus Records, she has garnered acclaim for her genre-bending albums..." That's right, I wasn't the first person to make up the word #GenreBending.

Ann Hampton Callaway is a jazz and pop singer. Her version has more focus on her voice with simpler supporting instruments. Because she can.

The setup is set up and Qobuz is buzzing. This critical listening session will be centred around Landslide by Fleetwood Mac. Stevie Nicks' vocals are enchanting. In all honesty, I'm not sure I ever heard this recording before the early 2000s. #Music #GenreBending 1/?

"A genre-bending, acoustic jazz journey recorded in total darkness, where handcrafted kalimbas and a 'growling' cello create a natural randomness—structured enough to be intentional, but organic enough to resist control."
