And to finish, a pop culture appearance. This is the scene in Baby Driver (2017) with the song Easy. It was recorded by Sky Ferriera. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mGG-B_AZk00

The Clef Hangers are an a cappella group who sings Easy. They also cover a number of other songs, which helps me with ideas for future #GenreBending sessions. They're very talented, and I enjoy hearing them do the instrument parts with their voices. A worthy interpretation.
Today's critical listening session begins with Easy by The Commodores. It's easy like a Sunday morning. I'm aware of Lionel Richie, but I didn't know this song was by him, or that his band was called The Commodores. #music #GenreBending 1/n
That was a lot of fun. You can see the #GenreBending playlist for Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) on Qobuz: https://open.qobuz.com/playlist/59236965

Sweet Dreams in Soul: Betty Black, Mississippi MacDonald.
Country: The Fly Birds.

But here's something special: Hayseed Dixie started as a hillbilly tribute to AC/DC. That's the kind of #GenreBending that can easily turn into 2 or 3 hours of YouTube. https://youtu.be/6kvWHzManUA

As an aside, I think Thunderstruck by Steve 'n' Seagulls was one of the first videos that pulled me down the YouTube rabbit hole. Thanks, guys!

Tonight's critical listening session stars Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This) by the Eurythmics. It's hard to overstate the influence of this song. It's appeared in numerous film soundtracks as diverse as The Breakfast Club to Deadpool and Wolverine. #music #GenreBending 1/n
This has felt like a musical detour, almost a rabbit hole. Interesting, but not really #GenreBending, more of a musical exploration. Here's the playlist on Qobuz if you want to listen in: https://open.qobuz.com/playlist/59231620

Upon listening again, it's a different song with the same name. Still interesting, but not exactly #GenreBending. Oops.
Tonight, I'm beginning a session of critical listening with Jägerbomb by Crossfaith. I have no idea where I first heard this song. It may have been internet radio (Rock Hard Radio on TuneIn) or using music discovery on ListenBrainz. But I've been listening to a lot of metalcore lately and encountered it again. #music #GenreBending

And in a couple months, I'm going to take the youngest to see Alestorm perform live at the Student Union building. Because why not? And maybe they'll perform The Last Saskatchewan Pirate.
