When I went to Nuremberg in the summer of 2025, one of the places that I wanted to see was the Zeppelinfeld. Since six Nazi party rallies were held there between 1933 and 1938, this historic location is also referred to as the Nazi party rally grounds. The massive rallies that you saw in videos were held there, and it was quite weird to walk around the area.

Especially because the area has had a different function since 1947. Nowadays, it's called the Norisring. First opened in 1947 as a motorcycle racing track, and it was given its name in a light motorcycle competition in 1950. You can see how things changed even more when the track became famous for sports car racing in the 1970s.

I took these pictures with a heavily expired Kodak Elite Chrome 200. Due to it being an expired slide film, the color shift was prominent when I first got the negatives back from the lab. I tried to color balance it as much as I could, but… I had to give up somewhere along the way.

Yesterday I finished writing a small travel guide for a weekend in Nuremberg, and this is the reason I'm posting these pictures now. It was great to go back to those few days in town in the middle of summer, even if it was just through the pictures.

The film I used here is called Kodacolor VR Plus, and it is one of my favorite expired films I have used so far. This one expired in the late 1990s, and it was a bit horrible to work on the low ISO that it demanded. And I blame this for the grainy look, the color shift, and the overall look here. I love it.

I'm glad I have a few other rolls in my fridge so I can continue shooting with it.

When I visited Nuremberg a few weeks ago, I had some time to explore the area before checking in to my hotel, so I took my camera for a walk around Fürth. Besides the interesting-looking architecture, one thing that caught my eye was this stork nesting on top of a building.

I'm not 100% sure about where I took this picture. Maybe it was in Fürth. Or it could be in Nuremberg… I don't know where, but I like this corner where the sun is shining on some art and a sculpture.

Now that I finally have some colorful rolls of film back from development, I can post some pictures from that time in Nuremberg, earlier in the summer.  Here are some snapshots of the city, with a focus on towers and the medieval architecture of the old town.

I spent a few days in Nuremberg, and this was my first visit to Franken and to Bavaria. Even though I have been living in Germany for years, this part of the country was always put aside.

And I can easily say that I loved the time I spent there and look forward to being back in town.

I'm a sucker for wooden bridges like this one I saw in Nuremberg. And this one has an interesting history. People also call it the “Hangman's Bridge” or the “Henkerbrücke ” in German. It was built in 1595 after a flood did a lot of damage to Nuremberg.

I passed by this tower every time I left my hotel in Nuremberg. It is the Spittlertorturm, one of the four circular main towers of the Nuremberg city fortifications. But the Spittlertor is the southwest of the Nuremberger City wall.

Early records strongly suggest that the gate tower was part of the last city wall. Its name comes from the nearby hospital St. Elisabeth of the Teutonic Order.
