La gomme laque appliquée au tampon est certainement l'un des vernis les plus long et difficile à réaliser. Mais c'est aussi la finition qui révèle le mieux les nuances et veines du bois.
5 semaines de travail auront été nécessaires pour obtenir ce résultat et j'en suis extrêmement satisfaite! Il va reposer encore quelques jours avant l'étape finale de l'eclaircissage.
Le temps pour moi de prendre un repos d'une semaine pour vous retrouver le 24 mars !
Finished another handle restoration today. This is my wife’s meat cleaver. It is a commercial product which she’s had for long before she met me, and it was starting to really show its age. Varnish was worn off in places, wood was drying out, etc.
So I set about restoring it and now it looks pretty again :-)
After two coats of Tung oil (Chinese wood oil), it's really starting to look pretty nice.
I think I'm done with the seedlac/shelac now (i.e. it's now "French Polished").
I need to let it fully harden before I do anything else, but am thinking a wax buffing to finish for an added layer of protection. We'll see how it feels when it's fully hard (several days time).
