They were a lot more generous to their former slavers than needed to be. Certainly more than I would've been under similar circumstances. These are the stories that need to be told, and learned, by people so that the modern charlatan rulers that keep trying to pretend these things didn't happen or weren't so bad can driven into the ridicule they so deeply deserve.
