Maybe it’s similar for many big hits

But the #accordion got this on the way up and then while plummeting from popularity

By the 1860s squeezeboxes had gotten cheap, they were loud and so easy to play harpists were dying out in #Ireland, and pipers and fiddlers were emigrating to America for work

It didn’t help that anti-jazz racists outlawed #FolkDancing, killing their own culture

After a significant hiatus the #Binghamton Morris Men had a practice today! Went over some of the small set dances we've been doing and started working out a new one. Looks promising.

Snappy dresser, because he's a sewist as well. Reminds me (superficially) of the kid who was a bystander in a Louvre photo, which caught him in vintagewear.

@JaneTomlinson Not many people know that the conflation of hoodeners (we don't dance) with customs such as #MorrisDance all started because an EFDSS fan asked a chap in Kent to make a *hobby* horse based on Abbots Bromley... but instead of a tourney horse (as seen in your video) he made one looking like the local *hooden* horse. This appeared at a 1939 #folkdancing event, and the founder of Folkestone's #Folklore Festival then chose the #hoodenhorse as a symbol for local dances, handbell-ringing and other folkie things. 🐴

Excellent contradance tonight near Syracuse, part of the Phylla Mae Fall Festival. Not a big event but great music, calling, and dancing. This year's featured caller is Michael Karcher with music by Stove Dragon and Raven & Goose. Continues all day tomorrow with English country dancing and more contra.
