the Place des Heroes, at the town of Arras, Artois region, France. January 2025. In the centre is the town hall with its belfry. Just a couple of hours before this picture the square was a bustling market full of stalls and vehicles and Saturday shoppers. They were all gone and the square cleaned up by 2pm. The sides of the square are lined by homes with Flemish Baroque style gables, and there are many shops selling fries (Vlaams Fritjes) and of course the local beers and chocolates and despite being in France, many Flemish voices can be heard on the streets.
