There is a rather curious superstition that if it does not rain on either Hatsuuma (初午 - first day of the horse in February) or the night of Hatsumi (初巳 - first day of the serpent in April, the 'Rape Blossom Festival' 菜の花祭り), then a fire is sure to break out!😱

🌾THE FIRST HORSE DAY🐎

Hatsuuma (初午), the 'first day of the horse' in February, is an important celebration for Inari shrines across the country, for this is the day in 711 that it is said the 'rice god' Inari Ōkami (稲荷大神) descended onto Mt. Inari.
This year Hatsuuma falls on February 12th.
