How had I never known about the Gay Games for #figureSkating ?

One commenter says that Figure Skating is a don't ask, Don't tell culture and heavily influence by Russia which insists homosexuality does not exist. These games have been going on since 1994!

I would have so liked to see a real Yuri on Ice.

It's cool to see. Young people being in sports like this usually means access to an ice rink that is there year round. More diversity in national competitions often come from more equity in access to training spaces.

#US & #Russian #FigureSkaters Among #Passengers on Crashed Jet

Members of the U.S. figure skating community were traveling on the commercial jet that collided with a military helicopter outside Washington.

US Figure Skating, the American governing body for the sport, said the skaters were returning from a training camp following the national figure skating championships, held in Wichita, KS. Russian figure skaters—as well as other Russian citizens—were among those on the plane.
