For now, I can afford to get a Sonoma Feed box in my area, via a farm that sells locally raised meats. It's a loophole to get the CSA veggie box. My city is sort of a CSA dead zone, but my place of work is not,but still on the fringe.
This veggie box is worth it! There is enough in it to last til the next week. Everything is fresh. I mean, even the week old dill is still "fresh" as well as the sugar snap peas. WTF is the stuff at the grocery store!? I can now taste the difference and. I am so done with "fresh" produce that dies in a day or two. This is money saving as well because you actually WANT to eat the stuff. I've started eating a wider variety of veggies too. My super taster/smeller partner is in heaven. Even the Meats are really fresh, duh, but then again, how long has. Grocery store meat been traveling from farm to table? He actually enjoyed a burger for the first time!
I'm super happy with this set up, super happy to taste really fresh food, super happy there is a loophole that lets me get a box. I'm also really pissed at what consumers are exposed to in grocery stores, and how limited, not fresh, not tasty things are. It's not a good model of commerce nor good for the people. It's also obvious how wealthy areas can sustain this and not wealthy areas can't, or aren't catered too. This produce box should be available to all.
