@TwoClownsEating

He only became a kind of hero afterwards but I had the opportunity to get to know Les Claypool because of shared music interest and kids in the same early school years. He came to my band's first gig and was always very supportive of us as local spectacle. Les gave me to confidence to use my weird voice loud - I figured if this guy can sing the I sure as hell can too! I also had the terrible experience of being his guest on stage and train-wrecking so hard they did the song again without me after I got off the stage. I appreciate the hell out of Les, rarely see him these days.

@Thebratdragon going to a friend's wedding in Princeton where the wedding band was my favourite band in the universe Pavement, then chatting with them at the hotel bar afterwards. #FandomAccessMemory

@TwoClownsEating Oh yeah - in 1996 (I think!), we had Reef play. They had a day off after the show and the bassist, Jack Bessant, asked if there was anywhere decent to go walking. Coincidentally my housemate Roj and I were going up to Edale in the Peak District the day after, so Jack stayed at our house and we had a great day out walking.

He stayed at a B&B that night and rejoined the tour the next day.

He subsequently went back there with his girlfriend and proposed 🙂

@TwoClownsEating being invited in to have a chat about the gig and how it went.

She'd just got out of the shower and proceeded to sit and dry her hair with only her bra and knickers on.

Perhaps the most surreal 10 minutes of my entire life!

@TwoClownsEating I worked in a student union concert venue 1993-7, and met a *lot* of people.

Steve Lamacq bought me a pint when we had him DJ an indie night.
Jarvis Cocker was aloof but hilarious.
The Manics were bloody lovely, as were The Prodigy, Orbital, PWEI, D:Ream, The Orb and many others.

Best story though: Kirstie MacColl, post show, asked for some new towels. I fetched some, knocked on the door of the dressing room and found myself 1/N

@TwoClownsEating I don’t think I’ve ever had a good #FandomAccessMemory moment. I either meet celebrities I hate (Rob Schneider) or don’t know what to say to celebrities I like (Rufus Wainwright).

But one time at a party, Katherine Keener gave me the biggest smile, just lookin’ right at me.

Of course, because I don’t know what to say to celebs, I simply smiled back. Or I hope I did.

hashtag for stories about meeting your heroes.

I think my favourites were meeting Robery Hardy and talking about Longbows, Being bought several Pints by Terry Pratchett and meeting Michael Horderrn and his wife letting him down terribly over tea and cake.

@TwoClownsEating Not quite my 'hero' but still amazing: Jimmy Somerville stepped out of a pub straight into my path on a pavement in Vauxhall and bounced off me!

Less percussively, I have exchanged emails (when that was still a novelty, eg late '80s) with some of my tech heroes.

@TwoClownsEating In 1996 or so I was going to see Lee & Herring in Northampton and wrote to ask if I could interview them beforehand for a fanzine I was involved with that had a circulation of maybe 6. To my surprise, Stewart Lee rang up my work one day to arrange it, and I spent an hour before the show interviewing them extremely amateurishly with a borrowed Dictaphone that turned out not to work. They were very patient and nice and even gave my friend a free ticket. #FandomAccessMemory
