I can’t believe what happened to my family at Chennai Airport. 👇 On 2nd June 2026, my father and my sister’s family arrived from the USA (via Germany), landing in Chennai at 1:00 AM. Because they had 15+ check-in bags, we hired a 12-seater van to pick them up. We loaded the luggage, boarded the van, and drove out of the airport toward Medavakkam. Then came the twist. 🛑 Just outside the airport, a Constable from the Chennai Traffic Police stopped our van for a routine breathalyzer check. Shockingly, the driver tested positive for alcohol. His reading was 92 (the legal limit is 30). At 1:30 AM, stranded on the road with a carload of exhausted international travelers and heavy luggage, my heart sank. Senior police officers approached, and a tense 30-minute discussion began. I expected a nightmare scenario. What happened next completely blew us away. 🤯 Instead of just impounding the vehicle and leaving us stranded, the presiding officer decided that our safety and time were the absolute priority. He took the van into custody but immediately deployed two of his subordinates: • One to safely drive our van. • One to escort and protect my family. They personally drove us all the way from the airport to our doorstep in Medavakkam. 🚗💨 My sister and her family are US citizens. To be honest, we all sat there asking ourselves: “Is this really the same system we have known for years?” It was a true "wow" moment that redefined our view of public service. A massive thank you to Officer Mr. Shiva Kumar for prioritizing citizen safety over pure bureaucracy, and to Mr. Lokesh for driving us home safely in the middle of the night. 🫡 True leadership isn't just about enforcing rules—it’s about empathy and problem-solving. For LGBTQIA+ refugees especially, displacement often comes after severe abuse by families, communities, and even authorities. Many have been beaten, assaulted, imprisoned, and pushed into survival strategies like sex work just to stay alive.

Let’s stop questioning people’s pain. Let’s start listening. Human dignity and empathy must stay at the center of humanitarian action always.
