Having spent last summer in a house without air conditioning and part of the current one as well, I find the short deutche welle mini-documentary particularly relevant. https://youtu.be/sKbEOMCsqaI?si=7LcGZ6wB_RD6iOOl (in short: current air-conditioners are quite wasteful; besides, most large scale buildings are not meant to be cooling efficient, and cities still struggle to implement larger-scale cooling measures such as adding green or shaded areas and building common cooling infrastructure for multiple buildings, improving transport efficiency and changing regulations to require more thermally efficient buildings and air-conditioning devices; note: some cities have successfully reduced average temperatures by combinations of these measures).
Another part of the problem is air-conditioning in cars. It feels absolutely wasteful to have each person cooling their own car.
The ASAP Science series Shut it off https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLvFsG9gYFxY_Zw3xDtRIa24J9sT7M9S61 is also nice to see.
Living in drier places made me appreciate how much just spraying ourselves with water or putting our feet in a bucket with water cools you down. Also, eating less has helped me (ok, not an option / alternative for everyone).
What do you do for cooling? And for saving energy in general? I would like to learn new tricks, and hear about any tips you have.
Have a good one!
