Finally getting around to playing some more with #DrupalCanvas and wow, things are even more janky than I had assumed. There has been so much back patting in the #Drupal community about something that isn't even close to being a minimum viable product.

But who knows, maybe this whole mobile device thing is just a fad, and everyone will return to using their desktop computers with nice big monitors for everything.

#DrupalCanvas is Drupal's built-in visual page builder, powered by reusable components and built for both site builders and content creators. Two sessions from FLDC 2026 worth watching if you are building with it.

If youโ€™re struggling with taxonomy references in Drupal Canvas, you must read this! Add entity reference autocomplete fields using a simple $ref, no custom code needed.

Drupal Canvas (Experience Builder) limits WYSIWYG editing within its own text formats. Use the Canvas Full HTML module to remove these limitations, giving content editors full control over their rich text content.

This is probably an unintended behavior, but I was trying out Drupal CMS 2.0.0 release candidate in ddev.

  • Make a change in the code component editor
  • Publish changes
  • Try to make another change
  • A refresh button is displayed
  • Changes are lost
  • Apparently the behavior was reported in canvas module back in October in issue 3552118. It seems kind of bad to have slipped through user testing all this time.

I am confused by the description of #DrupalCanvas on the project page, since it seems to be going out of its way to avoid talking about how it will make page layout easier for site editors, which should be its big selling point.

Instead, it is going on about structured content and migrations, which it will hopefully not make too much harder, but I'm not sure at all how it could make those things easier.

The Drupal Canvas is where the future finally becomes a reality. This is more than just an evolution of Layout Builder or Paragraphs; it's a fundamental paradigm shift in how we think about building with Drupal.
