In my talk for the Embroiderers Guild, one of my themes was the importance of playing. When you are playing, you relax, and ideas and inspiration surface more easily. I found again some of the watercoloured faience beads I made to play with when I was planning the Faience Necklace piece.

Ambushed down memory lane....

In the long ago and far away, I did an MSc in Textile Design Technology And Design Management. One of the practicals was the design and creation of a printed panel on the theme of "Manchester". On the somewhat specious grounds that I only went to Manchester to go to the theatre, I morphed that into "Theatre", and among other things created silk screens of text from songs and speeches. We used the trial fabrics to cover seats in the sunroom, until they were recovered a few years ago. But I kept the fabric, and I'm using it to back a couple of semi-secret projects.

Where it all began...

I think I was about four or five, staying with my grandparents. Grandmama found an offcut of double thread canvas, drew a little sprig and off I went.

I finally finished it years later, and she helped me turn it into a little purse to give to my mother.
