Roadmap 2026 — Charting the stars of the open social web
The 2026 roadmap focuses on making WordPress easier to discover and interact with across the Fediverse. Key areas include better search and recommendations through FASP support, Starter Packs to help users find communities, a more interactive Reader with reactions and replies, direct messages, and client-to-server APIs. Alongside these, we’ll continue improving interoperability, long-form publishing, and overall federation features.https://activitypub.blog/2026/02/11/roadmap-2026-charting-the-stars-of-the-open-social-web/
Mashable: TikTok says it’s ‘investigating’ its Epstein problem . “TikTok claims it isn’t deliberately censoring the name ‘Epstein’ in direct messages, but says it’s investigating a bug that stops some DMs that include the name from being sent.”

Tubefilter: YouTube responds to “top feature request” by testing direct messages. “In Ireland and Poland, users above the age of 18 now have the ability to ‘share videos you love…and have conversations about them directly on the YouTube mobile app.'”
«#SocialMedia giant #Meta→about to start reading users’ conversations, including #DirectMessages (#DM) & chats with its #AI, with no option to opt out other than not to use their platforms – which include #Facebook, #Instagram & #WhatsApp, which provides no option to turn its AI off. This data access will start in most of the world from 16 December though in the #EU & #UK, which have stricter #DataProtection laws, it will start later – apparently from 4 March next yr»

@Octoomy @soop @protofoxriley or I'm posting whilst sitting in the grass...
@[email protected] @[email protected] @[email protected] you joined infosec.space on Feb 08, 2024, since then you made 124,656 posts as of 7:51 AM EST today, if we were to divide that by 365, you were making on average 342 posts a day (rounded up). The grass you touch *might* be virtual.
Three thoughts I want to share about the idea of #encryption on #DirectMessages in #ActivityPub.
The concept of microblogging, what this was all built for, is inherently public. You make an account on these sites because you want to be able to say things in public. While direct messages and followers only messages are extremely useful, and definitely worth having, they are something of a deviation from the central purpose here, and I worry that there is a false sense of privacy there. This may be worsened by adding encryption, as people may think encryption guarantees security. Only strong encryption run by the users themselves could guarantee security.
Conversely, there are people who use these services for journalism, government dissent, private transactions, and other things that require some security. Encryption would further protect these people in ways they might not be able to.
