Over the last few days, I have been working on digital decluttering. Man! It’s a lot, it feels like I’m renovating my flat! But once it’s done, it will be easy to maintain. Think of it as early spring cleaning.

It’s good to do some digital decluttering. You will be surprised by how many unused applications or passwords you have on your phone or in your password manager.

ABC News (Australia): How to be a ‘digital minimalist’ and gain control over your smartphone and apps . “After some serious ‘digital decluttering’ — disconnecting from apps and hardware that you spend too long with, or make you feel bad — the idea is to slowly and selectively reconnect so they serve you better. But what’s it like to do this, and what are the challenges?”

I relapsed... I got back into #RSS and spent several hours over my break going through unread feeds, unstarring articles in #Feedbin, and decluttering my feeds by unsubscribing to some I don't read

I can't help but feel like I wasted time doing that but I also feel like digitally decluttering is productive. After all, I apparently have 100,000 starred articles in #Feedbin   I think a lot of that was filters that cast too wide of a net that built up especially after I took a long break from RSS.

It also probably came from starring things that could easily have simply been bookmarked instead. I found out yesterday that I could unstar articles through the API. Maybe I can write a program to help mass unstar articles since neither Feedbin nor #Reeder (classic) have multi select.

This was more of a ramble but if anyone has tips on helping me wrangle my RSS feeds and saved/read-later articles I would love to hear them!

So @birming mentioned https://raindrop.io for organizing bookmarks, and it's INCREDIBLE. If you have issues with bookmarks and sorting, I'd highly recommend it, too. I just quickly and easily made an account and imported some bookmarks in - the site has SUCH a great look inside, the UI is fantastic. Going to grab the app for my phone and check the syncing but I really have high hopes for this one.

I forget who I was talking to about organizing bookmarks the other day. Hope they see this. Definitely check out Raindrop.io.

More often but shortish sessions. Over time, I'm left with a bunch of emails I want to look a bit closer at. Sometimes I realise that I can delete a whole tranche by an organisation, others I'll sort into folders. I can switch between this and a new email address: I'm keeping the new one for friends and family, I don't want important emails to get buried. Another account is a good filter.
At some point I'll put all remaining emails into one folder: empties the inbox, yay!

#DigitalDecluttering update: Cleaned out my email inbox a bit. I only have currently-relevant emails in there. At the moment, that means 3 emails.
