In Peter Carlsens interpretation of Delacroix's 'Liberty Leading the People' called 'Denmark 2009' (excerpt) we are not lead by freedom but by a consumer (the painter himself) with beer belly and shopping bag wawing the Danish flag!

Art critic Léon Peisse in 1849, in a review of a work by Delacroix:

> La vérité esthétique n’est pas l’exactitude. (Aesthetic truth is not exactitude.)

Then Delacroix writes in his journal in 1850, and says it better:

> La froide exactitude n’est pas l’art. (Cold exactitude is not art.)
