The death of an 18year old in the army isn't a suicide. It's a state murder.

What is the value of human life in a mechanism that is designed to kill? What is the meaning of the death of a young man that in case of a war would be cannon fodder for our bosses? In a machine that teaches uniformity, macho behavior, discipline, obedience, hierarchy, nationalism, the death of an 18 year old is collateral damage. He is not the first and unfortunately probably won't be the last.
The army kills people and deadens consciences. It continues the nationalist propaganda of the schools and imposes gender roles. The anonymous 18 year old that we found out committed suicide on 11.11 was a victim of the murderous institution of the army. His death was underreported and quickly forgotten.
In a time when the sirens of war echo around us, our only duty is to refuse their orders.

Notes on the Cypriot summer

Fires are part of the natural cycle in Mediterranean ecosystems. The forests burn and regenerate. The destruction we’re witnessing in the Limassol area isn’t simply “natural.” It’s the product of decades of unchecked development and a state that prioritizes profitable development over people.

Luxury villas, agrotourism projects, and second homes are expanding deep into fire-prone zones, with full state support. The wildland–urban interface becomes a zone of engineered vulnerability. Human intervention turns natural events into a social disaster.

Meanwhile, crisis response is deeply unequal. Wealthier residents evacuate with ease. Migrant workers without documents, elderly people in remote villages, animals are all left exposed. Crisis management mirrors social hierarchy.

The narrative of “sustainable development” is misleading. Agrotourism brings roads, electricity, and dense construction into forested areas. These aren’t neutral interventions, they amplify fire risk and erode ecological resilience. Even water is managed along class lines. As reservoirs run dry, developments like Souni still boast private pools. Environmental crisis becomes a tool of exclusion.

Instead of systemic prevention, blame is placed on isolated “arsonists.” Or worse, conspiracy theories. Institutional neglect disappears behind scapegoats. While the state pours millions into surveillance and police, forest protection is sidelined. Then low-wage workers are asked to donate to recovery funds. Solidarity fills the gap left by austerity.

And after the ashes settle? New developments. Fire clears the way for tourist infrastructure. Destruction is part of the planning strategy.

National interests were and are the interests of the bosses who make us wave their flags and die in their wars. The coup and the war, the clash of nationalisms that peaked in 1974, was nothing but the clash of national capitalist states vying for their bosses’ interests. Those who shout their anthems and sow their national poison are simply the useful idiots of history. We know it well: our enemy is not the person on the other side of the barbed wire. Our enemies are the bosses, the warmongers, and the fascists of every nation. And no matter how much greek spirited propaganda they feed us in schools, in military camps, and in the media, we do not fight for their flags, their money, or their gods. The only war is class war - nationalism breeds cemeteries.

Εδιεκδικήσαν τα συμφέροντα της ε/κ αστικής τάξης για κυριαρχία στο νησί. Η εοκα β τζιαι το πραξικόπημα εν ήταν κάποια παρεξήγηση, ούτε σχέδιο ξένων δυνάμεων (που μπορεί να είχαν εμπλοκή) αλλά μια έκφραση των συσχετισμών τζιαι των διεκδικήσεων για τη μορφή τζιαι το μέλλον του καπιταλισμού στη νήσο της αφροδίτης. Ο μακάριος, που την άλλη, εν ήταν κάποιος άγιος αλλά κομμάτι μιας διαφορετικής, πάλε βίαιης, έκφρασης των συμφερόντων της ε/κ αστικής τάξης που είσσιε κλείσει την τουρκοκυπριακή κοινότητα σε θύλακες που το ‘63. The coup of July 15, 1974 was a violent expression of class war. The armed men of EOKA did what they had tried to do in ‘55–‘59: they fought for the interests of the Greek Cypriot ruling class, seeking dominance over the island. EOKA B and the coup were not a misunderstanding, nor simply a foreign conspiracy (even if outside powers were involved) – they were the result of shifting class forces and competing visions for the form and future of capitalism on the island of Aphrodite. Makarios, on the other hand, was no saint. He represented a different – yet still violent – version of Greek Cypriot bourgeois interests, the same ones that confined the Turkish Cypriot community into enclaves since 1963. While they feed us “I don’t forget”, we remember: our enemy is not the person on the other side of the barbed wire, but within our own society, our own community.

Nationalism is an ideology of death. The “national interest” is the interest of the bosses.
