I put a #cryptoquote in my retirement program when I retired from the Army in late 2024. I just got a message from a soldier I used to work with who finally got around to cracking it. To my knowledge, she is the only person who bothered.

The quote is from one of my very favorite sci-fi and fantasy writers.

When I was young I did the cryptoquotes in the funny pages after my parents finished the newspaper. (Cryptoquotes are just a single alphabet substitution cipher, and they include punctuation, so it’s quick to solve them.)

I just discovered M-x decipher built in to emacs and it’s wonderful. I could use it to figure out the solution in record time.
