Owls cannot sit criss-cross applesauce.

This photo of a Eurasian eagle-owl that's been popular as of late doesn't show the bird's talons or feet, but rather the feathers above the talons which in this photo are sticking out to the sides and positioned in such a way that they look like legs, giving the false impression that the owl is sitting cross-legged.

Even if an owl wanted to cross its legs the way a human would cross their legs - one knee over another - it is not actually possible for them because their belly is in the way.
